Barcelona / Sonar Music Festival

Barcelona has a rich music scene with several annual international music festivals which span the full spectrum of musical genres. Sonar is one of the largest progressive music festivals of its kind in Europe and perhaps the most well known.

2013 will be the 20th annual international festival of advanced music and new media art. The festival lasts for three days over a long weekend every June, in 2013 it will be held from the 13th to 15th of June. The unique format offers a carefully balanced combination of fun activities, avant-garde events, experimental music, electronic dance music and it highlights the latest trends in this genre of the arts. If one word could describe the festival it would be "current" the latest trends in electronic music in all its variations including digital creations and audiovisual productions are featured. Many emerging talents in the field are presented to the audience which can number up to 80,000 people from 90 different countries. Professionals gather here to exchange ideas, finalize deals and work together on creative projects.

In the 2013 line-up are artists like kraftwerk who present a 3D show; Pet Shop Boys; Two Door Cinema Club; Major Lazer; TNGHT; Sherwood &Pinch; Fantastic Mr Fox; UMA; Anenon and many, many more.

Unique environments are created to showcase the many talented performers, artists and technical experts. The festival aims to build a relationship between technology, innovative creative artists and the business world. Making all these sectors accessible to each other.

Sonar Festival locations

Sonar Barcelona has two main venues – Fira Montjuic (Avenida La Reina Maria Cristina) where "Sonar by Day" concerts are held during the day and Fira Gran Via de L'Hospitalet (Avenue Botanica 62) where "Sonar by Night" stages the international artists and leading performers in the industry. The night venue is a little further out of the city but both are essentially urban venues. This means that people coming to the festival can't just set up a tent in the festival fields like in some festivals. Instead they need to find accommodation within the city. Staying in the luxury penthouse you'll be able to access the festival venues easily.  The Sonar by Night event continues until 8am the next morning and it is often a mad rush of people clamoring for taxis to return to the city center. So the best transport option is either by train, rental car or a private taxi.
