Barcelona / Unusual Barcelona

As if the weird Gaudi creations in Barcelona weren't enough the city has many other weird, wonderful, strange and unusual places to see and things to do. Here are just a few of the places you may not find in every guide book.

Barcelo Raval

This is a 4 star hotel with a unique oval shape and innovative avante garde décor. The hotel is situated in one of the city's most hip areas and they serve tapas in the B-Lounge from noon to midnight. But the truly unusual thing about this hotel is the roof top swimming pool where you can get a panoramic view of the city while you bathe. The 11th floor pool terrace called 360° Terrace is open from May to October, visitors (both hotel guests and the general public) can enjoy the pool, bar, sun bathing and of course the magnificent view.

This is a delight to all those with a sweet tooth, a genuine caramel artisan's factory. There are stores on four continents and in 15 cities including two stores in Barcelona at Ample 28 and C.Major de Sarria 76. The candy comes in every shape, color and form, they have a classic chopped caramel stick, sucking sweets, and personalized candy. Try one of the stylish candy rings which slip onto your finger like jewelry. Try the sushi shaped candy or the fried egg shape, or how about a rose made of candy. The store itself is stylishly designed like something out of Willy Wonker's factory.

Visit the restaurant at Carrer Montsio 3, which featured in the film Vicky Cristina Barcelona. It was here that Scarlet Johansson, Rebecca Hall and Javier Bardem filmed the movie. The walls are plastered with newspaper clippings and photographs of famous people who have been to this historic restaurant. Besides the modern Hollywood heroes Picasso frequented the intimate establishment in 1899 and even held an exhibition here; musicians Isaac Albeniz and Lluis Millet and Barcelona's' best loved son Gaudi also ate here.

La Posada Maldita

In this unique restaurant at Avinguida de Flor de Maig 57, the purpose is not only to give you a good meal but to also give you a good scare. The staff in this horror themed restaurant are dressed in macabre costumes, the food and drinks all have a spooky theme and music, décor and ambiance all work together to make your visit memorably freaky.

ICONO Barcelona Ghost Tour

This spooky tour is based on the book Famtasmes de Barcelona and participants are taken to sites around Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera. The entertaining guide will tell you about the witches, exorcisms, haunting and ghosts of Barcelona's part and present.
